I like to have my kids get some school work done right after breakfast. I try to ensure everyone gets their breakfast and takes necessary vitamins and medicine. This is when we are all waking up, making our bed, and getting dressed. A full day at home with kids can seem scary, but I think this daily schedule makes your day go very quickly! But I find that having some sort of routine in place is helpful for all of us. I’m only human and also work from home! Some days go well and some don’t. Let me remind you that I have four children? Three of which are doing some sort of school work. This is our homeschool schedule that we are using. In this post, I’ll share some homeschool schedule templates to help keep a consistent routine. They may be learning, exploring, and participating in ways that you haven’t been able to see before. The other being that you get a glimpse into something that you don’t normally see…your child in the role of a student. While overwhelming at times, homeschooling certainly has its benefits, the main being that you are in control of what your child is completing for his/her school work. Your kitchen, living room, or child’s bedroom has suddenly been transformed into a classroom. If you are a parent, this also means that you have become a homeschool teacher overnight when the school year was suddenly cut short. This means we are spending a lot of time inside with our families. Disturbances in your daily routine (addition or loss of students, holidays, etc.) may require to you pivot, and go through this process again, or make temporary adjustments to your routine.During the time of this post, our world is experiencing a pandemic. Expect the unexpected and go with the flow! Life is ever changing. These simple reminders will make transitions go more smoothly.Ħ. Be sure to give your students advance notice about changes in their daily routine. Consider making, or purchasing a visual schedule to make it easier for children to predict what will be happening next. Don't forget about displaying the routine for your class as well. Once your routine is in place, write it down on a template (see the free one I've provided below). Make it easier to predict what will be happening next. At the end of the 2 weeks, review you notes, make adjustments and trial your new routine for another 2 weeks.ĥ. This means 2 weeks of you as the educator being consistent! During this trial period reflect on what is working and what will need to be changed. Do your best to stick to a new routine for 2-weeks. Starting a new routine can take some time to get used to. Indoor free play, Outside free play, Group time, and various adult facilitated activities (educator led learning centers, story time, music & movement, art projects, etc).Ĥ. Some examples of flexible activities include: After you have observed the natural times the children are active, focused, and inactive, you can start to pencil in the flexible activities that can occur during any time of the day. Take note of the times they are active (running, jumping, moving), focused (intently playing) and inactive.ģ. You'll be much more successful if you can work your routine around the natural rhythm of your group. Please don't skip this step! Many people want to start their first day with a rock solid plan, before even knowing the children they care for. Next you'll want to spend at least a week (where you haven't scheduled any adult facilitated activities) observing your preschoolers natural rhythm. Morning Schedule: arrivals, breakfast, bus drop offĪfternoon Schedule: lunch, nap time, bus pick up, Pick-UpsĢ. Some examples of predictable activities include: You should start by blocking out time for the predictable activities that happen consistently in your program/day.
